The Matrix 4 doesn’t have an official title yet but the artist has taken the liberty to attach “Renaissance” as its subtitle, lining up with the franchise’s use of subtitles beginning with the letter “R.” It is, however, an inspired title that subtly points towards the hopeful renaissance that Keanu Reeves has been having in the public’s eye, as well as the hopeful renaissance that the franchise will have once it’s back in theaters.
The fate of Keanu Reeves’ Neo in the original Matrix films was left somewhat ambiguous. After a long battle with Hugo Weaving’s Agent Smith, Neo allows him to turn him into one of his clones. Immediately after, the creators of The Matrix send a surge of energy through Neo’s body that allows them to destroy Agent Smith and all of his clones. It was not made clear if Keanu Reeves’ character survived the ordeal.
