Keanu Reeves has read the script for The Matrix 4 and he says it’s “very ambitious”.
Keanu Reeves recently discussed the script for Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix 4, calling it “very ambitious”. While the film isn’t reportedly gearing up for production until 2020, Keanu Reeves is understandably excited to get back into one of his most iconic roles to see where Neo’s story continues in The Matrix 4.
Although he’s been careful not to reveal too much about The Matrix 4, Keanu Reeves briefly spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the sequel and confirmed that he’d read the script. The star said “It’s very ambitious, as it should be!” – but didn’t go into any details on what fans can expect from The Matrix 4. And if the rumors are true that Warner Bros. are looking to cast a young Morpheus in The Matrix 4 – then ambitious is definitely the right description.
The fate of Keanu Reeves’ Neo in the original Matrix films was left somewhat ambiguous. After a long battle with Hugo Weaving’s Agent Smith, Neo allows him to turn him into one of his clones. Immediately after, the creators of The Matrix send a surge of energy through Neo’s body that allows them to destroy Agent Smith and all of his clones. It was not made clear if Keanu Reeves’ character survived the ordeal.
The original Matrix and its two sequels collectively earned a total of $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss portrayed their respective characters in all three chapters of the Matrix film series, each one directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski.
Lana Wachowski is directing The Matrix 4 from a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel. The film is set to star Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. The Matrix 4 is reportedly eyeing an early 2020 production start with Lana Wachowski also serving as a producer alongside Grant Hill.
The Matrix 4 does not yet have a release date. Stay tuned for the latest news on Keanu Reeves and the future of the Matrix franchise!
