Kelly Macdonald has officially joined the DC Universe! The Trainspotting alum has been cast in the upcoming Lanterns series for HBO.
The cast of Lanterns just keeps growing! The DC Universe recently found two of its Green Lanterns, with Kyle Chandler playing Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre taking on the highly coveted role of John Stewart. Now it seems the series is fleshing out its supporting cast, with Kelly Macdonald officially joining the project as revealed in a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter.
Kelly Macdonald has been cast as a character named Sheriff Kerry in Lanterns. A description for her character in the series reveals her to be a “no-nonsense” woman with a strong dedication to her family and the town she lives in. She’s meant to serve as a pillar of the community, though has a complex past to be explored. While it’s not clear if her character is based on one from the DC Universe comics, there are certainly some points of speculation from fans.
Who Is Kelly Macdonald Playing In Lanterns?
When rumors first began to circulate that Kelly Macdonald was joining the cast of Lanterns, it was framed that she could be taking on the role of Kyle Chandler’s love interest. Many presumed this meant she could be playing the Star Sapphire Carol Ferris. However, given the character’s radically different description from the iconic villain, it’s not likely that’s the character she’ll be playing in the upcoming DC Universe series.
However, Hal Jordan has had plenty of other love interests from across the DC Universe that Kelly Macdonald could be adapting in Lanterns. Three in particular come to mind. The first is Eve Doremus, who is such a blank slate any adaptation has free reign. The second is Dorine Clay, an alien who lived on a ranch in California before Hal Jordan discovered her and helped defeat the evil Headmen that had enslaved her planet. Finally, and most likely, is Rose Hardin: a single mother in the small town of Hope Springs that was the love interest of both Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and who played a role in the iconic Mosaic World franchise.
