Fans finally have an update on the Eternals sequel! Marvel’s Kevin Feige tips his hand when it comes to the most controversial Marvel Cinematic Universe series.
Despite Eternals ending up as one of the biggest flops in the MCU, the film has garnered a cult fanbase waiting at the edge of their seat for a potential sequel. However, hopes have been low for a return to the series given the silence for Marvel. The news certainly didn’t get better when Kevin Feige revealed their current plans for the franchise.
There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2,” Feige explained in a recent talk with Inverse. “There are, and I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgment of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean.”
It’s a shame that the Eternals will seemingly be forgotten in the dark corners of the MCU. The film had a cast that was practically begging to get fleshed out even more in a sequel. It’s good that Kevin Feige gave fans an update to shut down any false hope, but it seems the only hope for the project’s future is in other properties.
The Eternals Future In The MCU
As Kevin Feige hinted at in his quote, the impacts of Eternals are still being felt in the MCU. It’s now officially confirmed that Tiamut’s corpse will be appearing in Captain America: Brave New World, a thread most fans expected would be followed through on even if the project never got a sequel.
It’s also possible the cast of Eternals appears in other projects. The characters are immortal, after all. And with Harry Styles being cast as Eros, it’s not likely the MCU will leave him to rot given he’ll be able to sell out theaters all by himself. So while the lack of a sequel is a sad update, it’s clear Kevin Feige won’t be tossing the characters to the wayside.
