Kevin Feige reveals Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four film will ditch their origin story.

Marvel’s First Family has had a rough track record with its two film reboots to the franchise’s name, both of which covered the origin story. Marvel Studios is now looking to deliver the Fantastic Four film fans have been waiting for and officially announced their reboot in 2020.

Marvel Studios Going the Spider-Man Route

Spider-Man director Jon Watts was initially attached to the project but has since left, with Kevin Feige reportedly looking for a seasoned filmmaker like Sam Raimi to helm Fantastic Four. While Watts is no longer directing the film, Marvel Studios is still approaching it similarly to how they did when they took creative control of the Spider-Man franchise. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Feige shared that their upcoming reboot will not tell the origin story:

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before? We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

Here’s the synopsis for 2015’s Fantastic Four:

A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Directed by Josh Trank, Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey, and Tim Blake Nelson.
