Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi revealed Kevin Feige was the one to cast John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic.
For years, fans had been campaigning to see John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic, and they got their wish during the Illuminati sequence in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A Fantastic Four reboot is also in the works from Marvel Studios, and many assumed Krasinski would now be part of it, but director Sam Raimi suggests Kevin Feige might be looking for a new Reed Richards.
On the audio commentary for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, director Sam Raimi revealed it was Kevin Feige’s choice to cast John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic to satisfy the fans because it was an alternate version:
“It’s so funny that Kevin [Feige] cast John [Krasinski] because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be. And because this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.’ I’ve always really enjoyed all of his performances.’”
Marvel Studios Looking for a New Reed?
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man director Jon Watts was originally going to helm Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four reboot but later departed the project. Kevin Feige is now reportedly looking for an experienced filmmaker to reinvent Marvel’s First Family due to his time working with Sam Raimi again on the Doctor Strange sequel. While John Krasinski could still play a new version of Mr. Fantastic in the MCU, Feige is most likely leaving the casting decision to whoever directs the reboot in case they decide to take the character in a different direction.
