According to a new report, Sony Pictures has been receiving some guidance and words of warning in building their Spider-Man spinoff universe from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

Kevin Feige has of course overseen the last three solo Spider-Man movies, which were produced collaboratively by Sony and Marvel Studios. These films, along with crossover appearances in other Marvel movies, have introduced Tom Holland as the MCU’s Spider-Man.

However, outside of the MCU, Sony has launched their own cinematic universe of Spider-Man characters – minus Spider-Man himself. So far, this Spider-Man-free Spider-Man universe has consisted of Tom Hardy’s Venom movies and Jared Leto’s Morbius.

Kevin Feige’s Words Of Wisdom

According to a new report from Ankler, Kevin Feige has been drawing on his experiences with Marvel Studios to offer some guiding words to Sony Pictures on building their own Marvel universe out of Spider-Man characters.

The report claims that Kevin Feige has not only guided Sony in their approach to the task of building a shared cinematic universe, but has warned them not to rush into things.

Exactly how much of an influence Feige has had over Sony’s Spider-Man movies is not clear, but the studio certainly seems to be gaining confidence in building their Spider-Man universe. Their current slate of upcoming movies includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter, Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web and Tom Hardy’s third Venom installment.

According to the report from the Ankler:

“Marvel’s Kevin Feige does weigh in and offer notes on Sony’s Marvel movies that don’t feature Spider-Man. One insider credits Feige for guiding Sony’s approach and warning the studio not to get too ahead of itself in terms of building some larger universe in the vein of the Avengers movies.”

When it comes to building a cinematic universe out of comic book characters, Sony Pictures couldn’t really hope for a better mentor than Kevin Feige. The MCU has been going strong since 2008, frequently turning lesser known characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy into blockbuster hits, and is rapidly approaching its 30th theatrical release.

Here is the synopsis for the latest film in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach produced the project with Lucas Foster, with Palak Patel overseeing it for Sony.

Morbius is available on Digital, and will hit DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD on June 14. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news regarding Sony’s Spider-Man movies, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
