Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige revealed director Ryan Coogler initially wanted to tease Namor in the first Black Panther film.

Marvel fans have been waiting years for Namor to show up on the big screen in the MCU ever since they got the rights back from Universal. The Sub-Mariner will finally make his MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but he almost turned up a little sooner.

Black Panther Almost Teased Namor

Avengers: Endgame hinted toward an earthquake in the ocean near Wakanda that might’ve had to do with Namor. It seems a Wakanda vs. Atlantis showdown has been in the cards for some time, and Kevin Feige recently revealed to Empire Magazine that Ryan Coogler pitched a Namor tease for the first Black Panther film:

“Ryan had a pitch for a tag at the end of Black Panther. The camera would push through the palace in Wakanda, and then we’d see wet footprints leading up to the throne.”

Here is the synopsis for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever:

“In Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.”

Directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole, the film stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on November 11, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the Marvel sequel, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
