Many fans were shocked to hear that Kevin Feige’s Star Wars project was no longer actively in development given the producer’s role at Disney. However, according to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Feige’s Star Wars was never even discussed.
It’s the dream of millions of Star Wars fans to one day be able to contribute to a franchise so close to their heart, which is why many didn’t question reports that Kevin Feige, who himself is a large Star Wars fan, would want to develop his own project. However, according to Kathleen Kennedy, a dream was all this rumor was. When asked about Feige’s project during an interview at Star Wars Celebration in 2023, Kennedy said that they never discussed the idea, but she would be interested in hearing one:
“Kevin Feige’s project was something announced in the press, or I suppose, fandom,” Kennedy spoke to IGN. “But, there was nothing… Nothing ever got developed. We never discussed an idea. As everybody knows Kevin, is a huge Star Wars fan. If he did come up with something, I would be all ears. But, that’s never really happened. So, it’s not an abandoned project. It just never really happened.”
While it’s no shock that Kevin Feige wasn’t actively pursuing a Star Wars film given his commitments to Marvel Studios, the interview actively contradicts a number of other reports, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron stating that he was actively writing the script last year. It’s possible that a script was being developed before it was officially pitched to Lucasfilm, though it is unclear when or if this project will ever come to light.
The future of Star Wars looks brighter than ever
The announcement of these three new Star Wars movies marks an exciting time for fans of the franchise. With each movie being directed by a different filmmaker, there is sure to be a unique perspective and style brought to each project.
The focus on new characters and storylines within the Star Wars universe is also promising. While the original trilogy will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans, it’s important to keep the franchise evolving and exploring new avenues.
