Is Spider-Man 4 finally happening? Kirsten Dunst gives her thoughts on a potential return to the iconic franchise for one final film with Tobey Maguire.
Spider-Man 4 is one of the most infamous “What If’s” in comic book movie history. While whole books could be written on the subject, the short of the matter is that Sam Raimi was initially set to pen a follow-up to the controversial Spider-Man 3 with Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire set to return. However, due to creative differences with Sony Pictures, the project was scrapped.
Despite this, there’s been a surprising amount of home (or perhaps some would call it cope) that Spider-Man 4 would one day come to life. Years ago, a simple “4” written in webbing to promote one of the MCU’s Spider-Man films had fans convinced that Kirsten Dunst, Sam Raimi, and Tobey Maguire were all set to ride again. Though, sadly, the long-awaited return has never come to pass.
Is Spider-Man 4 Actually Happening?
Yet even though Spider-Man 4 isn’t a reality now, that doesn’t mean it never can be. Kirsten Dunst specifically has been very vocal about making her return to Sam Raimi’s weird world for the webhead alongside Tobey Maguire. And in a recent interview with content creator Supes, she revealed her ideas for how the project may go down.
“That would be cool, right? I mean, I don’t know if the fans are into it. I feel like that is an interesting movie, right? Me and Tobey doing that again but with kids.”
Of course, with the Multiverse now falling out of vogue, it’s not likely that Spider-Man 4 will ever see the light of day. This especially so now that Tobey Maguire has made his official return as the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home, giving fans one final ride with the hero on the silver screen. Though, if this story did come to light, it’s certain fans wouldn’t complain!
