Kirsten Dunst is optimistic about returning as Mary Jane Watson in a new Spider-Man movie.

About a month since it hit theaters, fans are still reeling from excitement seeing the return of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man in No Way Home. His return, along with Andrew Garfield, brought millions of fans around the world cheering as they joined the screen with Tom Holland in the biggest film in the webhead’s cinematic history.

There were rumors about the potential return of more characters from both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s universes. In particular, the return of Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson was rumored, but was ultimately not in the finished version of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Currently, Kirsten Dunst is promoting her Oscar-worthy performance in Netflix’s The Power of the Dog, which she stars alongside No Way Home star Benedict Cumberbatch. In an interview with People Magazine, she revealed that while she has yet to see the film, she’s pretty excited to check it out:

“I haven’t. I’m sorry! I know I have to. I know Tobey’s in it and it’s such a huge surprise and everyone’s freaking out. I will. I’ll eventually watch it. You know, I’ll watch it with my son, because he’s starting to get into Spider-Man stuff. There’s, like, a little-kid version of Spider-Man that he watches, so maybe he’ll watch it with me.”

Kirsten Dunst also reflected on the legacy of the Sam Raimi movies, and how playing Mary Jane Watson left an impact on her career:

“It’s such a cool legacy to be a part of, and to be the first one and be a Spider-Man fanI feel like that’s a really special thing because these fans have lived with these movies for so long and have grown up with it. It’s legacy things that feel really exciting. It’s nice to be excited about something. All of us are dealing with so much right now. It’s nice to have people want to go to the movie theater and see something that really makes their heart happy. I saw a reaction video [from a No Way Home screening] that someone sent me and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ People really needed this right now — more than ever.”

When asked about returning to the big screen as Mary Jane Watson, Kirsten Dunst had this to say:

“Of course I would. Of course. I’ve been asked about that a few times. That’s a no-brainer. That was a huge part of my career and my life.”

Kirsten Dunst’s former co-star Tobey Maguire is featured in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here is the synopsis:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
