‘Spider-Man 4’: Kirsten Dunst Gives Her Thoughts On A Sam Raimi Sequel

Is Spider-Man 4 a bad idea?

Should Spider-Man 4 ever get made? Kirsten Dunst weighs in on if Sam Raimi should continue his iconic Marvel trilogy.

Fans have been begging for Spider-Man 4 forever. Now with Sam Raimi back in Marvel’s good graces, the possibility of it happening seems more likely than ever. However, it seems not everyone is so eager to revisit the trilogy. When asked if she’d be open to returning as Mary Jane Watson, Kirsten Dunst suggested it may be best to let sleeping dogs lie.

“I don’t think we need that. I don’t know,” Dunst told IndieWire in a recent interview. “It was so long ago. I just don’t know how they would, what the story would be. I don’t know. It seems like … I don’t know! It would really depend on the script, and also, I don’t know, you’re really putting yourself out there in a way that … let’s maybe leave things when they were good. You know what I mean?”

Kirsten Dunst does have a point that, oftentimes, revivals of iconic series don’t go well. Some prevalent examples include the continuations of the Ghostbusters and Clone High franchises. While Spider-Man 4 could turn out to be another Logan, fans should try to remember that not even Sam Raimi is infallible. Marvel can attest to that much with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness!

Will Spider-Man 4 See The Light Of Day?

It’s no secret that Hollywood lives and dies of its biggest franchises, and there’s no bigger franchise than Spider-Man. While Sony’s current attempts at expanding the IP have been marked failures, it’s possible that Sam Raimi could pull off the near-impossible task of developing two concurrent film series with his Spider-Man 4.

This isn’t entirely fanfiction either. Sandman actor Thomas Haden-Church has revealed he’s heard rumors of Sam Raimi and Marvel bringing back Tobey Maguire for Spider-Man 4. While rumors are far from reliable, they suggest that conversations are happening behind the scenes to bring Maguire back as the iconic Webhead, be it in his own series or otherwise.
