Is Knull the secret villain of Venom: The Last Dance? Co-creator Donny Cates teases that Sony’s highly-anticipated sequel may be crazier than fans expect.

Fans weren’t expecting much when it came to Venom: The Last Dance, assuming it would be a fun conclusion to a trilogy with mixed reception as Sony quietly killed off their live-action universe. However, it seems the insanity is almost beginning, as the most recent trailer for the film teased that Knull, God of the Symbiotes, is being set up as the true villain of the upcoming sequel.

The internet has had a lot of reactions to Knull appearing in Venom: The Last Dance. However, no reaction has been quite as titillating as the villain’s co-creator Donny Cates. While Cates had no idea the character was even in the film until the trailer dropped, he ended up getting in contact with Sony and was even given the chance to read the script for the sequel. According to him, the project is doing the Lord of the Abyss justice.

“Also, I’ve been talking with Sony and I read a script for #VenomTheLastDance,” Cates wrote on social media. “And I’ll say this; it is so much bigger, and so much more ambitious than you can imagine. And, um….KNULL. Holy shit. That’s how you treat a king. Happy Birthday to me. See you at @NY_Comic_Con ;)”

Who Is Knull In ‘Venom: The Last Dance’?

Knull was created by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman as the villain for their Venom comic and King of Black event. The villain is a god of darkness that created all symbiotes throughout the multiverse, serving as the center of their hivemind and using their powers to conquer worlds, before eventually being freed by Eddie Brock.

It’s unclear if Venom: The Last Dance will adapt these exact origins from the comics. However, it’s more likely than not that the villain is being set up as the central threat of Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off stories. Whether this comes to a head in Spider-Man 4 or its own film is yet to be seen, though it’s likely fans will get a tease of what’s to come at this year’s New York Comic Con.

Venom: The Last Dance opens in theaters on October 25, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Venom series and makes sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
