Lady Gaga is set to join Joaquin Phoenix for Joker: Folie à Deux and a stunning concept design imagines the singer-turned-actress as Harley Quinn.
Since Joker: Folie à Deux was first announced by Warner Brothers, Lady Gaga was rumored to be appearing in the film as Harley Quinn. An official teaser confirmed that Gaga would be appearing opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel, which is rumored to be a musical.
Lady Gaga transforms into Harley Quinn
After Joker followed Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck as he transformed into the Clown Prince of Crime, the sequel now looks set to show Lady Gaga’s Harleen Quinzel following him into madness. This new concept design from popular artist “BossLogic” gives Gaga’s Harley Quinn a punk vibe, in a vest top with fishnet sleeves on her arms. Check out the design from BossLogic’s Instagram page:
The artwork also gives Harley Quinn her signature oversized mallet. Whether such overtly comical elements will make it into the more grounded world established in Joker is yet to be seen, but it’s certainly a compelling look for Lady Gaga’s take on the iconic Batman villain.
The look is a far cry from the ball gown seen in silhouette in Joker: Folie à Deux‘s first teaser. Given director Todd Phillips’ penchant for shaking up the comic book genre, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Gaga’s Harley in an outfit that sharply departs from her classic look.
After the first film ended with Arthur Fleck in Arkham State Hospital, it’s likely that – as in previous iterations – Harleen Quinzel will start out as the Joker’s psychiatrist. Plot details are being kept under wraps but the a significant chunk of the sequel is expected to take place in Arkham.
Todd Phillips, who helmed the first Joker movie, is returning to the director’s chair for Folie à Deux, working from a script he co-wrote alongside Scott Silver. Production is expected to begin this December for a October 2024 release.
The cast of Folie à Deux also features Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey.
The first Joker movie is currently available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital formats. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the sequel and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
