Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has opened up about James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe work.

During a wide-ranging discucssion at RBC’s Global TIMT Conference in New York, Warner Bros. discovery chief David Zaslav revealed that James Gunn and Peter Safran are close to completing a roadmap for the future of the DC Universe. Gunn and Safran officially started working at WBD’s new DC division on November 1st.

“I think over the next few years, you’re going to see a lot of growth and opportunity around DC, there’s not going to be four Batmans,” Zaslav teased. “And so part of our strategy is drive the hell out of DC, which James and Peter are going to do. I think they’ve thrilled the fans. I think they’re going to thrill you over a period of time.”

The latest DC Universe movie, Black Adam, is currently playing in theaters and has so far earned more than $350 million at the worldwide box office. Fans likely won’t see anything from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU plans until 2024 at the earliest. The next four DCU films — Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom — were overseen by DC’s previous management, led by producer Walter Hamada.

A new era for the DC Universe

Last month, James Gunn and Peter Safran signed a four-year deal to run DC Studios. The division is now in charge of DC’s film, television and animations efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing the company’s comic book-related assets under one roof.

James Gunn is expected to focus on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Peter Safran will handle business and production. They will report directly to Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav and collaborate with Warner Bros. Film Group co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
