The Lanterns cast just keeps getting bigger! Paul Ben-Victor has joined the upcoming Green Lantern series in what appears to be an entirely original role.
With filming for Lanterns in full swing, fans didn’t expect much news to come out of the series in regards to new additions to the cast. The project has already thoroughly filled with coffers, from new characters like Sheriff Kelly, to mainstays in the Green Lantern comics like Sinestro. It didn’t seem like there was much more to add.
However, Lanterns seems to be full of surprises. Paul Ben-Victor has officially joined the cast of the series as a character never-before-seen in the original Green Lantern comics. According to Deadline, Ben-Victor will be playing Antaan, who is described as “an extraterrestrial devoted to exposing the truth and exacting vengeance against those who wronged his people. Consumed by a deep and unrelenting hatred for the law, he is determined to deliver justice on his own terms.”
What Is Paul Ben-Victor Playing In Lanterns?
While there’s no character named Antaan in the Green Lantern comics, that doesn’t mean that description gives fans nothing to work on when it comes to speculation about the role Paul Ben-Victor will play in Lanterns. Perhaps the most notable thing about the description is that Antaan comes from an alien race that was wrong by another group. And given the history of the Green Lantern Corps, that likely refers to the Guardians of Oa.
In the Green Lantern mythos, it’d be easier to list off the alien species that the Guardians haven’t wronged. However, given the speculation that the Manhunters may play a role in Lanterns, it’s possible that Paul Ben-Victor will be playing a Martian. Antaan not only aligns with the naming conventions of the species, albeit missing an apostrophe, but they’re a species that was heavily wronged by the Guardians through the creation of the Manhunters based on their people.
