Aaron Pierre is looking fresh!

The Green Lantern’s got a gat! Set photos from the production of Lanterns give fans their new look at Aaron Pierre as the beloved hero John Stewart.

With Lanterns officially entering production, set photos from the highly-anticipated Green Lantern series have finally begun to hit the net. There hasn’t been too much of note, with the team mostly focused on building the sets as stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler likely wrap up their scenes in other locations. However, they did give us some sneak peeks into the vibe of the show, setting it squarely in small town middle America.

Yet it seems the stars have finally arrived in the newest batch of set photos! The most recent batch of pics from Lanterns show Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart in what seems to be some sort of firefight. Notably, the character isn’t wearing his iconic Green Lantern ring, trading it out for a standard issue pistol. While certainly not out of the question for a former marine to be wielding a gun, it has left some fans questioning about the direction of the show.

Why Doesn’t John Stewart Have His Ring In Lanterns?

It may seem odd for the main character of the Lanterns TV series to not have a Green Lantern ring. However, it does line up with what fans know about the project. It’s been described as a True Detective-esque story, with an older Hal Jordan guiding John Stewart in a terrestrial bound mystery. This means these set photos likely come from a scene before Aaron Pierre’s character gets his iconic power ring.

John Stewart’s garb in the set photo is also notable. Aaron Pierre seems to be wearing some kind of medical scrubs. They don’t line up with any notable event from the Green Lantern comic. Perhaps Lanterns starts with Stewart waking up from some sort of coma. It’s also possible that he was in a mental health facility attempting to treat PTSD from his time in the marines, only breaking out by the intrusion of a Manhunter.
