The recently released streaming numbers for Pixar’s Lightyear reveal that the film had a big premiere on Disney Plus.

Earlier this summer, Lightyear hit theaters to mostly positive reviews but turned out to be a box-office disappointment. The film would only earn $226M worldwide on a $200M budget making it the first box office bomb in the Toy Story franchise. As it turned out, however, the film was a big hit on Disney Plus.

A Disney Plus Hit

Recently Nelson published the streaming data for the most viewed films and television shows for the first week of August. Lightyear debuted on Disney Plus on August 3rd and became a huge hit on the platform. According to Nelson, for the first week of the month, the film had over 1.3B minutes viewed throughout the week. This made it the most viewed film of the month and was only behind Stranger Things and Virgin River as the most streamed piece of media that week.

Here is the synopsis for the Pixar Toy Story spinoff, Lightyear:

The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.

Directed by Angus MacLane, the film features the voice talents of Chris Evans, Uzo Aduba, Peter Sohn, Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Efren Ramirez, and Keira Hairston.

Lightyear is now available to stream on Disney Plus and available on all physical media formats. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the franchise and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
