Another son of Zeus almost made it into Love and Thunder!

A deleted scene from Thor: Love and Thunder has been released online, featuring Chris Hemsworth’s Thor meeting Simon Russell Beale as Zeus’ youngest son, Dionysus.

Russell Crowe plays Zeus, King of the Greek Gods, in Thor: Love and Thunder and a post-credits scene reveals Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein as his more popular son, Hercules. However, this new deleted scene reveals Dionysus was also set to appear in the film at one point.

Dionysus was the Greek god of wine and he certainly seems to have been indulging in a few drinks in his deleted Love and Thunder scene.

Meet Marvel’s Dionysus

The scene sees Thor, Korg and Valkyrie arriving in Omnipotence City – it’s possible Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster would have been added into the unfinished scene later – where they ask Dionysus where they might find Zeus.

The drunken god is seen being pulled around on a chariot and fed grapes by his lackeys. When he stops to speak with Thor and the others, he reveals he is the youngest son of Zeus, despite looking a few years Hercules’ senior. He also seems blissfully unaware of Gorr the God Butcher.

The hedonistic god appears to have little interest in Thor’s quest and hurries off to meet with Aphrodite. Simon Russell Beale’s Dionysus can be seen briefly in the final cut of Thor: Love and Thunder, appearing in a crowd scene, though his only speaking part was this cut scene.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor sequel stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
