Is Blade still in trouble? A new report spells more issues for Marvel’s upcoming reboot starring Mahershala Ali as the iconic Daywalker.

It’s an open secret at this point that Blade is one of the most troubled projects Marvel has ever taken on. The reboot has gone through multiple writers, delays, and even losing its director. While there’s still some hope for Mahershala Ali’s movie to make its release date next year, all signs point to a delay into 2026.

These delays don’t come cheap. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel had already invested in a massive train action setpiece prior to the reboot’s director parting ways with the project, leading to them giving the prop to another Disney production. This was likely millions of dollars down the drain for Mahershala Ali’s Blade, not even to think about all the other costs associated with labor.

Marvel’s New Path For The Blade Reboot

Despite all of these issues, it seems Marvel isn’t ready to throw their hands in the air and leave Mahershala Ali out to the wolves. The studio is still reportedly trying to cement its plans for the reboot, now deciding to fully lock in a script before courting a director for the project.

“It is unclear how many millions Marvel has spent on Blade, counting the development and pre-production costs. But it’s not stopping now,” the report revealed. “Marvel has learned in recent years that it does not pay to be rushed into production. And the studio prides itself on having a high development-to-production ratio, something that eludes most other companies. The new plan calls for the script to be written over the summer and then go out to directors.”

It’s good to hear that Marvel isn’t going to rush Blade into production. Given how highly anticipated the film is and how much bad PR it has already gotten, it’s best to take some time to find the perfect script rather than rush into a shoddy product. While the film likely won’t make its current release date, fans can rest assured that Mahershali Ali’s reboot is in cautious hands.
