To nobody’s surprise, Mahershala Ali’s Blade movie is getting yet ANOTHER rewrite, according to the latest Marvel rumor. Logan writer Michael Green was previously tapped to rewrite the script.

It has been almost 5 years since Blade was first announced, and the movie has gone through a ton of writers. Recently, there was an update in Production Weekly saying filming would start in the late summer/early Fall. However, it now appears the movie has run into another problem.

According to Daniel Richtman, Marvel is looking for a new writer to significantly revise the script. However, he says Marvel has finalized the overall story. He also confirms the earlier report that filming is expected to begin later this year in Mexico or Brazil.

Ali’s made recent comments about the project in an interview with EW which is positive spin.

“We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you,” Ali said. “I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon.”

The Troubled History Of Marvel’s Blade

For those who haven’t kept track, here is the timeline: Blade was announced in 2019 with no release date or director set. Eventually, Bassam Tariq was hired to direct and Stacy Osei-Kuffour to write the screenplay.

At Comic-Con 2022, it got a November 3, 2023 release date. But soon after, Tariq left the project. Yann Demange then became the new director, and the movie was delayed to September 2024.

Then the Hollywood labor strikes happened and it got pushed to February 14, 2025. The film is now slated to release on November 7, 2025

Marvel has also slashed the project’s budget, now being less than $100 million, which is chump change for an MCU project of this caliber. Many view these issues as a sign that the reboot will be bad. However, it shows that Mahershala Ali and his team truly care about getting Blade right, which hopefully means that the project will turn out better than expected.
