The upcoming reboot may be facing a complete re-write.

A new report claims that the hiring of a new writer for Mahershala Ali’s Blade may be doing a complete re-write of the script.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Bassam Tariq has left the director’s chair on Marvel Studios’ upcoming Blade film starring Mahershala Ali. The departure of the director two months before filming was set to begin was a bit of a surprise, but not uncommon from Marvel, who has had numerous directors leave projects over creative differences and other reasons in the past.

A complete Blade overhaul?

However, some reports claim that Blade is dealing with some issues regarding its script, which reportedly frustrates Mahershala Ali. And according to a report from TheDirect.com, the film has a new writer in X-Men ’97 head writer Beau DeMayo, who replaces Stacy Osei-Kuffour, looking to re-write the whole script from scratch.

It will be interesting to see how Blade turns out for Marvel Studios. Landing two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali as the titular hero is an absolute win, but to give him a lackluster film would be a complete waste of his talents. Here’s hoping things work out in the end, and the film turns out as good as we all hope.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade last appeared in Marvel’s Eternals. Here’s the synopsis:

The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.

Chloé Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

Eternals is available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD and also to stream on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of Mahershala Ali as Blade in the MCU, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
