Is Blade officially getting recast? A new voice has been chosen for Blade in the Marvel Zombies series instead of bringing on Mahersahla Ali.
Fans have been waiting over half a decade for any news they could get about Mahersahal Ali’s Blade reboot. Which is why it was so shocking when it was revealed that the actor wouldn’t make his debut as the vampire hunter (let’s ignore that Eternals post-credits scene) on the silver screen, but rather the small screen. Early promotional material for the Marvel Zombies series seemed to confirm that Blade would be making an appearance, complete with Ali’s likeness.
However, it seems that Mahershala Ali may not be playing Blade after all. At least, in Marvel Zombies. An exclusive report from ComicBook.com confirmed that the character had been recast for the animated limited series, with Todd Williams taking up the role as Blade. Williams has previously served as a stand-in for Ali’s characters in animation, having taken over the role of Titan from Ali on Invincible.
Is Blade Officially Recast?
It’s important to note that the Blade variant seen in Marvel Zombies promotional material still very much resembles Mahersahala Ali. If the actor wasn’t still contracted with Marvel Studios, it’s likely they would have had to redesign the character model for the series, even following Todd Williams being recast as the iconic daywalker.
This suggests that the reason Mahershala Ali isn’t voicing Blade in Marvel Zombies has nothing to do with the actor leaving the role. Rather, it’s likely either Marvel Studios, Ali, or both want to save his debut as the dhampir for the silver screen. So while it’s a shame he was recast with Todd Williams, it’ll simply make the final product all the sweeter!
Marvel Zombies will release on October 3, 2025 on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
