‘Arrow’ Producer Marc Guggenheim Writing ‘Spider-Man’ Spin-Off ‘Jackpot’ For Sony

Jackpot Sony Spider-Man Marc Guggenheim Arrow

Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters continues to grow as the studio has hired Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim to write a feature film focusing on the Spider-Man heroine Jackpot.

Deadline brings word that Arrow co-creator and executive producer Marc Guggenheim has signed on to pen a feature set in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters. The project in question revolves around Jackpot, a Marvel heroine who made her first comic book appearance in 2007’s Spider-Man: Swing Shift.

Created by Dan Slott and Phil Jimenez, Jackpot is an indentity used by two different women — Sara Ehret and Alana Jobson. Sara was the original Jackpot before passing the mantle to Alana, who was killed by the Marvel villain Menace during a mission with Spider-Man. After her death, Sara returned to crimefighting as Jackpot while also raising a family.

Earlier this week, Sony hired S.J. Clarkson to direct another female-centric Spider-Man spinoff, possibly focusing on Madame Web. The studio is also said to be working on a number of other SPUMC projects revolving around iconic Spider-Man characters like Kraven the Hunter and Silk.

Next up for the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters is Jared Leto’s Morbius film, which was recently pushed back to March 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Sony is also on post-production on Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the sequel to the 2018 smash hit starring Tom Hardy.

Here is the official synopsis for Jared Leto’s Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.

Morbius is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on March 19, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Sony’s plans for the Jackpot movie by Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
