The game was inspired by a line from the Taika Waititi film.

Marvel Avengers Thor Ragnarok

One of the developers behind Marvel’s Avengers reveals how the upcoming game is influenced by Thor: Ragnarok.

With the release of Marvel’s Avengers on the horizon, one of the developers explained how the game’s version of Thor was influenced by Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok. Lead Combat Designer Vince Napoli recently spoke to IGN about the game and how each character’s abilities benefit specific styles of play. When discussing Thor, Napoli explained how effective the God of Thunder’s Odinforce can be in the middle of a fight and how it changes his different moves

“The coolest thing about his combat is that you can trigger his Odinforce and [Thor can] electrify himself, protect himself, counter enemies. But it also has a unique property that it adds to every single one of his attacks. And it isn’t just as simple as, ‘Oh, it just adds lightning damage.’ It completely changes the impact or the effect that it will have on the enemy. So you can see what it does and modify each of his attacks.”

But interestingly Napoli explained how the developers pitched using Thor in the game. He revealed they were inspired by the most recent Thor film. He pointed out “There’s a scene in Thor: Ragnarok where Odin tells Thor that he’s not the god of hammers,” before telling IGN the hero would be both the God of Hammers and the God of Thunder and Lightning in the game. Hopefully that means the hero will have some impressive melee moves as well as his incredible abilities.
