Marvel Warns NYC Politician To Stop Dressing As Captain America

Marvel warned a New York City politician to refrain from using photos of himself dressed as Chris Evans’ Captain America as part of his campaign.

New York councillor Ben Kallos was recently told by Marvel to stop dressing as Chris Evans’ Captain America as part of his political campaign. The politician recently sent out a “Superhero Alert” saying that while like Chris Evans’ Captain America, he “can do this all day” when fighting for New York citizens. The original statement mentioned Ben Kallos’ work fighting for equal opportunities, affordable housing and improving commutes through the city in an effort to gain more donations for his run as Manhattan Borough President.

After the “Superhero Alert” featured Ben Kallos wearing Chris Evans’ Captain America outfit, Marvel sent the politician a cease-and-desist letter asking him not to use their characters in an effort to promote a political campaign. Ben Kallos posted the letter to his Twitter saying he “got a kick out of it”. Although the reaction from Marvel seems a little heavy handed for what looks like a harmless photo opportunity and a nod to the politician’s love for the character. Take a look at the photo of Ben Kallos in Chris Evans’ Captain America costume and the letter from Marvel below.

What do you think of the politician using the Captain America costume in his campaign? Tell us in the comments!

Chris Evans’ Captain America last appeared in Avengers: Endgame, here’s the synopsis:
