Is Elizabeth Olsen’s time as Wanda Maximoff coming to an end? The latest rumor teases what the future holds for the Scarlet Witch in the MCU.
If you went back in time and told a fan in 2016 that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch would be one of the faces of the MCU, they would probably call you a whackjob. But in 2025, it’s all but reality. In lieu of Marvel truly pushing a new face of their franchise, Wanda Maximoff has become a beacon of the Multiverse Saga, still having a large fandom despite having been dead for years.
This has led many to wonder what exactly the future holds for her character. With the Mutant Saga on the horizon, some have worried that the upcoming Avengers films may serve as a swan song for Elizabeth Olsen’s time as Wanda Maximoff. This way, the studio can cast a younger actress for the Scarlet Witch and have her and Quicksilver be mainstays of the upcoming Mutant Saga alongside their father Magneto.
Is Elizabeth Olsen Coming Back As The Scarlet Witch?
While there’s still no official news on what the future holds for the Scarlet Witch, the rumor mill is stepping up to bat with their own reports. The latest round-up by Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus reveals that, not only will Wanda Maximoff not be recast heading into the Mutant Saga, but that Elizabeth Olsen will continue playing her iconic role for years to come in the MCU.
This isn’t particularly shocking. Marvel has been hesitant to recast any major role in the MCU outside of the most extreme of circumstances. And given how closely tied Elizabeth Olsen is to the role of the Scarlet Witch, any role that Wanda Maximoff plays in the future of the franchise would undoubtedly be associated with her, regardless of if she was playing the character at the time or not.
