Marvel Studios could be casting Daredevil ally and lover Echo for an upcoming Disney Plus series in the future.
According to a new report from Murphy’s Multiverse, Marvel Studios is looking for a deaf female, Native American, First Nations, Indigenous or Latinx, 18 or older, for the role of “Malia” in a Disney Plus series which is currently set to shoot in the fall. The studio is looking for an “independent, athletic and bright” actress to play a character around 20 years old.
In the comics, Maya Lopez a.k.a. Echo, is a deaf Native American who, similar to Taskmaster, possesses photographic reflexes, allowing her to mimic and duplicate the physical movements of her opponents. The once Daredevil lover also took on the moniker of Ronin alongside the New Avengers.
It remains unknown as to which series the role is being cast for. Marvel Studios is currently in development on several live-action shows for Disney’s new streaming service including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was originally set to release on Disney Plus this August with WandaVision following in December, however, it’s possible this could change due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was forced to halt production in March and has yet to resume principal photography despite being cleared to start filming again in the Czech Republic last month. Meanwhile, WandaVision will reportedly commence with additional photography this July after production wrapped in early March.
It is also worth noting that the latest casting call comes from Sarah Finn, who also serves as casting director for the live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, meaning it is possible Finn could be looking for an actress for an upcoming Star Wars series.
