Is Kevin Feige being spread too thin? A new report reveals that Marvel is honing its focus after a period of massive expansion in the television space.
It’s no secret that Marvel Studios has had a bit of a reputational hit in the past few years. The franchise was once lauded as a truly cohesive vision helmed by Kevin Feige (no matter how true to the matter that actually is). Now, a massive influx of television programming and less than stellar feature productions have left fans questioning the future of the franchise.
Those Disney Plus demands seem to sit at the core of Marvel’s issues as presented in a new report from The Wall Street Journal. The article reveals that studio head Kevin Feige was spread so thin over the past few years that creatives had a hard time connecting with him for feedback. By the time he was able to give it, it would be far too late for things to be changed. The article also states that staffers would literally have to chase down Feige to get answers to questions.
How Marvel Is Changing Their TV Output
It’s not shocking to anyone paying attention that adding multiple Disney Plus shows a year that themselves almost constitute eight feature films would cause Kevin Feige’s schedule to be a bit cramped. And while this wasn’t the openly stated reason for doing so, it has been confirmed that Marvel Studios will be reducing their Disney Plus output to 1-2 live-action projects a year in order to make the process feel less like “homework”.
The affects of this change likely won’t be felt until 2028 at the earliest, as Marvel’s pipeline for the next few years is likely already in the works. That being said, it wouldn’t be shocking if Kevin Feige delayed some upcoming Disney Plus shows in an attempt to spread out their release dates and hone development on key projects like Daredevil: Born Again.
