The Batman is coming back soon! Matt Reeves discusses the status of the long-awaited sequel, as well as a future for the franchise on the small screen.
Fans have been itching for any news about the future of The Batman. The sequel was originally due out in 2025, before being delayed over a year into 2026 due to the script still needing work. And with The Penguin only just now hitting HBO, and Matt Reeves playing cards close to his chest when talking about the project, some fans have worried that the film may face even further delays.
However, it seems those fears can now be put the rest. In a recent talk with Entertainment Weekly to promote The Penguin, Matt Reeves revealed that he has officially finished the script for The Batman‘s sequel. The project is set to film early next year, with it maintaining its current release date for quarter four in 2026.
The Batman’s Future In Television Revealed
While fans have mostly been focused on the grueling wait between The Batman and its sequel, The Penguin has served as a phenomenal appetizer to many regarding what’s to come next for Matt Reeve’s epic crime saga. Sadly, the show lacks any direct appearance from the titular Caped Crusader. However, Reeves admitted that his absence now doesn’t mean he can’t appear in a future project.
hat’s not to say that there would never be an appearance by Batman or Bruce or something like that [on a future series],” Reeves explained. “Lauren and I did speak: Do we want to find a way to get Rob to somehow be in this show? But that was an afterthought.”
It’s interesting to hear that Matt Reeves is open to the idea of bringing The Batman‘s vigilante to the small screen. Robert Pattinson has never been much for television work, so it would be interesting to see how he would react in that world. It’s unclear what project he would appear in, however. Be it a sequel to The Penguin, or another entirely unannounced series being worked on in the background.
