Morbius star Matt Smith admits that he is confused about his character’s identity in the upcoming film.
The road to Jared Leto’s Morbius has been a long and odd one. The film was continuously delayed for varying reasons which included the Covid-19 pandemic with the final delay happening in January, reportedly due to the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Despite all the delays, there are many things that are not clear about the movie.
One of the many mysteries surrounding the film is Matt Smith’s role in the movie. For the longest time, it was believed that he would be playing a minor Spider-Man/Morbius antagonist named Loxias Crown AKA Hunger. Recent reports, however, indicated that this is not the case with the character simply being known as Milo, though the two apparently share many similarities.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Matt Smith opened up about his character in Morbius and admitted that even he was confused about his character’s identity and still isn’t entirely sure who he was supposed to be:
“The truth is, I wasn’t aware of the great big history of the character in many respects. Because the script I was presented with doesn’t really delve into the past of him – or indeed the future. And isn’t someone else playing him? It’s all a bit confusing to me, to be honest with you. I took as my Bible just the actual script, is the honest truth of it. And it was all a bit odd whether it was Loxias [Crown] or not. I’m still not quite sure, to be honest. “
Here is the synopsis for the film:
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.
Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
Morbius is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on April 1, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the film and Matt Smith’s role in it and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
