Marvel Axed Three ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Cameos

Should they have been cut?

Spider-Man No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a true clash of the Titans, with every prior Spider-Man actor meeting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to face off against their most dangerous villains. However, it seems as though a few key cameos were cut from the final film.

This report comes from MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, which has previously revealed details about Sony’s canceled Sinister Six film. According to the writers of the book, Spider-Man: No Way Home cut the cameos of three iconic women from prior Spider-Man films.

“[Spider-Man: No Way Home writers] Sommers and McKenna, at various points, wrote versions of the story that incorporated Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy, Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson, and Sally Field’s Aunt May,” The book explains. “But ultimately cut all those women when they decided that the story was already overstuffed; the only female characters with significant screen time would be Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May and Zendaya’s MJ.”

While it certainly would have been a treat to see characters like Gwen Stacy and an alternate Aunt May in the film, it’s understandable why their cameos were cut. Spider-Man: No Way Home is already packed to the gills with multiverse action, so adding any more may have destroyed the delicate balance they tried to hit. However, here’s to hoping fans see those actors return to the big screen in the future.

What’s next for Spider-Man?

What does the future hold for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker? The success of Spider-Man: No Way Home has opened up a world of possibilities for the fan-favorite Marvel character. The movie ends with Peter erasing himself from the memories of his loved ones in order to protect them from his enemies. This sets up an interesting dynamic for future Spider-Man movies, as Peter will have to navigate a world in which he is not known as Spider-Man.

Rumor has it that Tom Holland has signed on for multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances after Spider-Man: No Way Home. The future of the Spider-Man series is currently unclear, but it is likely that Marvel will continue to explore the multiverse concept that was introduced in No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
