Michael Rooker On James Gunn’s Marvel Firing & New ‘Suicide Squad’ Gig

In a recent appearance, Guardians of the Galaxy actor Michael Rooker expressed sorrow of James Gunn’s firing but enthusiasm regarding work on the next Suicide Squad film.

During an appearance at Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta, the actor talked a bit about James Gunn’s firing. He was clearly not happy at the fact that Gunn lost Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but seemed happy that he already landed a gig at Warner Bros. with Suicide Squad:

“It’s terrible, isn’t it? Yeah, but oh well, guess what? He’s on a gig already. Suicide Squad, that’s right. He’s writing it and directing it as well.”

From the look of things, Michael Rooker stands behind his former director.

James Gunn, as we all know by now, was sadly fired from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise after a series of old Tweets resurfaced where he made a number of pedophilia and rape jokes. It later turned out that the so called outrage regarding these Tweets was fabricated by and alt-right Twitter group that wanted to hurt James Gunn. Despite a large backlash from fans, critics and other big names in Hollywood, Disney sadly stood by its choice to keep the director removed from the franchise. Luckily, other studios were aware of what a talent James Gunn is.

Earlier this month the story broke that James Gunn was in talks to write and direct the next Suicide Squad film. Gavin O’Connor had originally been developing the film but seems to have been pushed aside for whatever James Gunn has in mind. Later on, Warner Bros. confirmed that Gunn was at least writing the next Suicide Squad film. No official release date for the film has been released.

What do you all make of this? Are you excited to see James Gunn tackle the Suicide Squad franchise? Would you rather have seen him stick to Guardians of the Galaxy? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
