A new Thor: Love and Thunder image shows Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor in all her glory, with the reforged Mjolnir in her grasp.
Thor: Love and Thunder is fast approaching and the film will see Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian thunder god joined by a new Thor. Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster has taken up Thor’s old hammer Mjolnir, reassembled following its destruction in Thor: Ragnarok, and has apparently proven herself worthy of the her Asgardian ex-boyfriend’s name and power.
If She Be Worthy…
A new image that has surfaced online offers one of the best looks yet at Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor. Jane Foster’s new costume clearly draws upon the look of Chris Hemsworth’s earlier Thor outfits, while maintaining the mask/helmet combination of her comic-book counterpart. In the comics, the Mighty Thor was rarely seen without her mask, but that doesn’t appear to be the case for Love and Thunder‘s take on the character.
The image also clearly displays the still-cracked Mjolnir, which has been reforged following its destruction at the hands of Cate Blanchett’s Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. It is not yet clear how Mjolnir will be restored, though trailers have shown that the weapon’s individual fragments can be used by the Mighty Thor as miniature projectiles against her foes. Check out the new image below:
Thor: Love and Thunder‘s director Taika Waititi recently said he doesn’t believe the film is a passing of the torch, so it is unclear whether Natalie Portman will be sticking around as the Mighty Thor in future MCU projects. However, she certainly looks ready to impress audiences in the upcoming Thor film when it lands in theaters next month.
Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.
