Could Mike Colter be coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Luke Cage? The former Netflix star reveals if he’d ever be open to return as the Marvel hero.
The Netflix shows are finally getting their flowers in the MCU. With Daredevil: Born Again shaping up to be a return of many of the franchise’s best characters, fans assume it’s only a matter of time until other heroes from that era start showing back up. When asked if he’d ever return as Luke Cage, Mike Colter admitted that he’s open to the possibility.
“[I’d return] only if it doesn’t affect my schedule in a way that I can’t do another season of Evil,” Colter told ComicBook.com in a recent interview. “I mean, I would totally entertain a good script and idea that made sense.”
Fans are the Marvel Netflix shows are likely ecstatic to hear that Mike Colter is open to continuing his story as Luke Cage. His arc was perhaps the one most affected by the sudden cancellation of the Defenders universe, so bringing him into the MCU would allow that story to be tied up in a neat little bow. However, it seems Colter isn’t exactly jumping at the chance to return.
Mike Colter Moves Past Marvel
Despite fans continuing to call for his return, it seems Mike Colter has put his time as Luke Cage behind him. Continuing in the interview, Colter explained that he’s moved on to new projects following his departure from the Netflix series. He also admits that, while he loved the role, he’s more than happy for someone else to take up the mantle of Marvel’s Power Man.
“I don’t stay up at night thinking about it, nor do I recall it unless someone brings it up,” Colter explained. “But I enjoyed my time. I don’t look in the past. If something comes up, great, we’ll talk about it. But right now, I’m [past it].”
“I’m happy, more than happy, to let someone else take on that mantle or that role. That character’s living on for a long time,” Colter told the site in a separate interview from late last year. “Fans are going to have that character in one way, shape, or form for the rest of their lives, and I’m happy to have been a part of that for those guys.”
It makes sense that Mike Colter has long moved past the role. The Luke Cage Netflix series was only a short few years of his career, and Marvel characters don’t hold the same special place in some people’s hearts that they do for MCU fans. Though given his legacy with the role, here’s to hoping the actor could get the proper send-off he deserves!
