Bisha K. Ali, executive producer of the Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel, has revealed the season finale almost included a reference to the Avengers.
Ms. Marvel introduced Iman Vellani to the MCU as Kamala Khan, who found herself activating her own latent superpowers when she discovered a mysterious bangle from her grandmother. A large part of Kamala’s character was her love of the Avengers, particularly Captain Marvel.
While the series was rich in references to various Avengers, one nod to Earth’s mightiest heroes didn’t quite make the cut in the final episode.
Ms. Marvel’s Not Quite An Avenger (Yet)
In a recent interview with SyFy, Ms. Marvel executive producer and head writer Bisha K. Ali spoke about moments from the series that didn’t make it into the final episodes.
In any series on the scale of Ms. Marvel there are going to be a few moments that don’t make the final cut. Bisha K. Ali revealed one of those moments included a fun mention of the Avengers. Perhaps it was one reference too far, or maybe it was just cut for time.
Speaking about the moment, which she called one of her favorites, Ali said:
“Will Dunn, who wrote some great drafts of Episode 6, had this one bit at the end, after the community have helped her, she’s on the way to go and stop what’s happening at the high school. It’s her running through the streets. Someone stops and says, “Hey, are you from the Avengers?” And she says, “No, I’m from Jersey City.” That’s one of my favorite bits but it didn’t make it in the end.”
Bisha K. Ali went on to talk more about the amount of detail that went into creating elements of Ms. Marvel that couldn’t be fully explored in the series. “We have full documents, like textbooks, that we’ve written on The Clandestines and what the Noor dimension is like,” she said. “Everything about those characters, we’ve written their lives out. Also, with Waleed and the Red Daggers.”
Here is the synopsis for Ms. Marvel:
Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?
The series stars Iman Vellani, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat, and Farhan Akhtar. Episodes of the series were directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, with Bisha K. Ali serving as the head writer.
