Netflix and Mattel are partnering together to develop a live-action Masters of the Universe film.
A live-action Masters of the Universe film is finally happening and we already know who our next He-Man will be. Netflix has been the home for all-things He-Man over the last few years with animated projects like Masters of the Universe: Revelation and the CGI revival of Masters of the Universe. Now, toymaker Mattel is partnering with the streaming service once again to craft a live-action film based on the franchise.
The film will be directed by The Nee Brothers, who previously helmed The Lost City and Band of Robbers. David Callaham, who penned Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Wonder Woman 1984 is set to co-write the film alongside the Nees. Noah Centineo was previously attached to star as the iconic character but a representative confirmed last year that the star would be walking away from the role. Luckily, Netflix has already found its Prince Adam in a rising star.
Kyle Allen, who most recently had a breakthrough performance in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, has been tapped to play Netflix’s live-action He-Man. The film is set to head into production this summer. Details are slim on the adaptation, though one can imagine that the film will closely follow the character’s origins and early battles with the nefarious Skeletor.

“On the planet of Eternia, a young lost prince discovers the powers of Grayskull and transforms into He-Man, Master of the Universe! The classic battle between He-Man and evil Skeletor rages to new heights as both hero and villain forge new and mighty teams. A new generation of heroes fighting for the fate of us all. In the end, who will become Master of the Universe?”
