Could Nicolas Cage have really made his return in Deadpool and Wolverine? Ryan Reynolds speaks on almost bringing Ghost Rider back to the Marvel universe.
Much ink has been spilled about how wild every cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine was. Truly, it was more than any Marvel fan could’ve asked for. However, it seems there might’ve been more on the table. During a recent interview, Ryan Reynolds revealed that there were early talks to bring Nicolas Cage in to make his return as Ghost Rider.
“Yes,” Reynolds told Collider during a talk to promote Deadpool and Wolverine. “Came to a conversation for sure. Yeah, but no.”
Seeing Nicolas Cage return to the silver screen as Ghost Rider would’ve truly made Deadpool and Wolverine one of the wildest projects in Marvel history. However, given how busy Cage has been with projects like Spider-Man: Noir, it’s understandable that his cameo would have to be left on the cutting room floor for this film.
Could Nicolas Cage Still Return As Ghost Rider?
Late last year rumors began to circulate that Nicolas Cage was already locked to return as Ghost Rider in a future Marvel project. Given that Deadpool and Wolverine had already mostly wrapped filming, these rumors (if true) likely had nothing to do with the talks Ryan Reynolds mentioned when it came to Cage’s scrapped cameo.
However, Nicolas Cage won’t have a long tenure as Ghost Rider if he does return. Even ignoring his other projects, Marvel is reportedly looking for a new A-List actor to portray the character in an upcoming film. So even though fans may have missed a Cage cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine, whatever future involvement the actor may have with the character will likely be equally as brief.
