Ever since the end of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., fans have been wondering when they’ll see Ghost Rider in live-action next. According to a new rumor, they won’t have to wait long to see Nicolas Cage’s triumphant return as Johnny Blaze.
While not the biggest Marvel character, Ghost Rider has always been a favorite among general audiences due to his design. This earned the character his own series of movies outside of the MCU starring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze in the early 2000s, along with a recurring role on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. through Gabriel Luna’s Robbie Reyes.
It’s now been nearly 7 years without a reference to a Ghost Rider in any live-action Marvel media, with fans itching to see the character back in action. According to a new rumor by insiders CanWeGetSomeToast and MyTimeToShineHello, fans will be seeing the rider sooner than they may think, with Nicolas Cage set to return as Johnny Blaze in an undisclosed MCU project.
The most likely outcome is that Nicolas Cage returns as Ghost Rider in one of the MCU’s multiverse projects like Avengers: Secret Wars. However, the much more fun option would be if he returns as Johnny Blaze in a more permanent capacity similar to how Jon Bernthal and Charlie Cox have reprised their roles as Punisher and Daredevil respectively. Though given the popularity of Robbie Reyes, it’s more likely he’s chosen to be the MCU’s main Ghost Rider.
The future of the Avengers franchise
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is the first movie in a two-part finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, rounding out Marvel Studios’ Phase 6. Both films are scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2025.
Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, with Jeff Loveness attached to write. Michael Waldron will write Avengers: Secret Wars, though there is no director attached to the project.
With the expansive Multiverse Saga and its star-studded cast at the helm, Marvel fans are undoubtedly on edge for the next two Avengers movies. Regardless of how fans interpret Robert Downey Jr.’s comments, one thing is certain: Marvel Studios has a grand vision in mind.
