Is the Nova series dead? A new report reveals that Marvel Studios has put a number of upcoming Disney Plus projects for the MCU on hold.
A project based around Nova has been one of the most-requested things in the history of the MCU, which is why so many fans were excited when it was announced that the character would be getting his own series on Disney Plus late last year. The project was reportedly heavily inspired by classic sci-fi ensemble shows, including franchises like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. The show was set to focus on Richard Rider, bringing one of the longest awaited heroes from Marvel’s cosmic side into the MCU.
Sadly, it seems that fans may be waiting a bit longer for Nova to make his debut in the MCU. A new report from Deadline reports that Marvel Studios has “paused” development on the series for Disney Plus, despite hiring a showrunner and beginning to look for actors to portray the role of Richard Rider. This comes along with number of other projects at the studio pausing development, including Strange Academy and Terror, Inc. potentially painting a new path forward for the studio following the Multiverse Saga.
Marvel Cans Three Disney Plus Projects
Nova isn’t the only series that Marvel Studios put on hold. The other high profile project reportedly paused is a Strange Academy, which was meant to be a series focusing on the mystical side of the MCU. The show would’ve featured Benedict Wong in a starring role as Wong, a character who has been seen in quite a few of the studio’s offerings on Disney Plus
The other project reportedly put on hold by Marvel Studios is a Terror, Inc series. Very few details are available regarding this particular Disney Plus series, with Marvel seemingly keeping development very close to its chest. However, the show would’ve more than likely brought the anti-hero Terror to the MCU, a mutate with the ability to replace his limbs with other people’s body parts, granting him their memories and abilities. It’s possible that this show was set to tie-in the studios’ horror slate, including projects like Werewolf By Night and the upcoming Blade.
