Aquaman star Patrick Wilson recently compared the directing styles of James Wan and Watchmen director Zack Snyder.
Patrick Wilson is no stranger to superhero movies. He’s stared in Watchmen as Nite Owl II, did a voice cameo as the president in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and is now starring in Aquaman as the half brother of Arthur Curry, King Orm. Wilson has worked with Wan on a number of projects that include Aquaman, The Conjuring and the Insidious movies and with Zack Snyder on Watchmen and Batman v Superman. So, I wanted to know how different their directing styles for superhero movies was and Wilson had nothing but kind words for the two directors.
“I think both were setting out doing something completely different. I look back on
Watchmenand every time I see one of my cast mates from Watchmen we hug each other and there’s this great camaraderie cause we are so proud of that movie and I can’t thank Zack enough for that. It’s an actor’s dream to step into that world.”
Wilson went on to compare both Zack Snyder and James Wan’s visual styles and even went as far as saying that Watchmen has one of the best opening sequences ever.
“They have a lot of similarity in that, visually, they want to create such a different tone. The opening credits alone of Watchmen will go down in history as one of the best opening credits in film and then James is someone who when you see Atlantis and you see his vision for creating this other world and all these creatures and people… all that is unbelievable to me and yet it comes down to story and character, and that’s something James feels very passionate about. “
The actor ended his answer with nothing but praise of the two visionary directors and you can tell there’s nothing but respect there for them.
Every director is different. I will gladly say both directors have such a great temperament and focus and I deeply love that, and appreciate that the more movies I make. You just want to work with good people and those are two great guys.
What do you think of Wilson’s comments? Did you love the Zack Snyder take on Watchmen and are you excited to see James Wan’s Aquaman? Sound off in the comments section below.
