Patrick Wilson Reveals If He’d Return To The DC Universe As Aquaman’s Brother Orm

Will Orm return?

Is Patrick Wilson’s time in the DC Universe officially over? The Aquaman star reveals if he has any desire to return to this role as Orm.

The Aquaman franchise sits at an odd place in the DC Universe’s history. Their projects’ success seemed to ebb and flow with the superhero franchise as a whole. Their production was intermingled with the politics of the studio, and their sequel was somehow the final project released prior to the complete reboot of the universe by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

This leaves many to wonder if there were any stories left untold in the Aquaman series. If there was some sort of grand plan being built up behind the politicking of the DC Universe. When speaking on that possibility with Variety, Patrick Wilson admitted that he doesn’t have any regrets over the story ending after two movies, and that he simply feels fortunate to have been part of the journey at all.

“Was I hoping to do more? I don’t think so. I mean, I say this as a guy who’s done several Insidious movies, several Conjurings, a couple Aquaman. It’s not like there’s a stigma to me against sequels. It’s just when you look at the structure of Orm — bad guy in the first one, basically a good guy in the second one — I don’t know where else he goes. I wasn’t signed on for a third.”

“There was no frustration. I don’t know where the story would go. I wouldn’t be opposed to it. We had a great time shooting the second one. I had the best time. I feel really fortunate to have my two forays into superheroes be these bizarre characters of Night Owl Two [in Watchmen] and Ocean Master. It’s strange and odd and weird, and I dig that. I’m not going to lie. So, I’m happy with that ship sailing.”

Will Patrick Wilson Return In The DC Universe?

Of course, even if the Aquaman movies are done, it doesn’t mean Patrick Wilson’s time as Orm has to come to an end. Plenty of actors from the old DC Universe are making their jump to the reboot, from John Cena as Peacemaker to Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle. It’s possible that Wilson could appear in some sort of cameo capacity. However, it seems that the actor isn’t exactly jumping at the possibility.

“Would I go back to it? I mean, if it’s good. Who’s directing it? What’s the story? He’s such an odd character. I don’t know where you just drop him in. It’s so strange to me. Also, they have taken the DC Universe in a whole different way. We had a good run. It’s okay. So, there’s not one ounce of, ‘Is there anything?’ I would totally play again if it’s worth it, but I just don’t know how.”

Of course, with Aquaman’s actor Jason Momoa now taking on the role of Lobo in the new DC Universe, it’s not likely anyone from his films would be making the jump, Patrick Wilson included. However, if the franchise does ever find an interesting multiverse story to somehow include Orm in, it is good to hear that such a beloved actor has his heart open to portraying the character one last time.

There are currently no Aquaman projects in development at DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
