A day after the Hollywwod Reporter story hit the net that Wonder Woman 3 wasn’t going forward, new reporting shed light on what went down between director Patty Jenkins and Warner Bros. Discovery.

According to TheWrap, Jenkins left the project after rejecting studio notes on her treatment for the third film in the franchise.

Jenkins turned in her treatment last week to Warner Bros. Film Group Co-Chairpersons and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. The response? Both CEOs felt the treatment didn’t work and decided not to move forward until it was in the best shape possible.

Addtionally, DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran, who had nothing to do with the decision, also agreed with De Luca and Abdy that the treatment didn’t work. Jenkins was also told the current treatment was not a step in the right direction for the franchise and even asked her if she would consider pitching a different idea for the Amazonian warrior.

According to Deadline, Jenkin’s treatment “had character arc problems which rivaled that of Wonder Woman 1984.”

The Wrap report added that Jenkins wasn’t having any of it and went in on De Luca and Abdy saying “that they were wrong, that they didn’t understand her, didn’t understand the character, didn’t understand character arcs and didn’t understand what Jenkins was trying to do.” The kicker is that Jenkins sent an email to De Luca that ended with a link to the Wikipedia definition of “character arc.”

Jenkins came down with an ultimatum that if the studio didn’t do her treatment, she would move on to another film. Jenkins didn’t even want to hear what Gunn and Safran had to say on the matter, if though they had nothing to do with the decision to pause.

The future of the Wonder Woman series

So what happens with Wonder Woman 3? Only Gunn and Safran know as the reveal their plan to Warner bros. Discovery CEo David Zaslav next week.

Gal Gadot is still attached to play Wonder Woman and the studio is hopeful she is willing to continue in the role without Jenkins as director.

Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran!
