Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji has opened up about working with James Gunn on his upcoming Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
In 2020 it was revealed that John Cena’s character Peacemaker would be getting his own HBO Max series. The show was eventually revealed to take place after the events of The Suicide Squad with James Gunn considering it a sequel to the film. The film’s post-credits scene teased that Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt and Steve Agee’s John Economos would be Peacemaker’s main handlers. The first trailer, however, indicated that the two had a boss, played by Chukwudi Iwuji.
In Peacemaker, Chukwudi Iwuji portrays Clemson Murn. In the show, he is a mercenary hired by Amanda Waller to handle a new branch of Task Force X which involves Project Butterfly and Peacemaker in particular. Like many other actors who have worked with James Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji is set to appear in the director’s other projects. The actor is currently set to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 though it is currently unknown what role he will be playing in the upcoming film
In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, the actor opened up about appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. and how James Gunn pushes him as an actor:
“This has been quoted to me a few times and it does make me blush. I blush purple. The fact of the matter is, I don’t know why James feels that way. It’s not really my job to investigate what that is. What I do know is that when someone puts that amount of trust and belief in you, your responsibility, your only job is to make sure it’s requited. So I feel James and I have a great collaboration, even on the project we’re doing now, which stretches me even further. And he really does stretch me. I feel we have this wonderful combination of him trusting my choices, but him also seeing my choices and recognizing when I can go much further, and surprising me with how much further he can make me get. It feels like a wonderful reciprocal collaboration and I’m having a ball. The time of my life.”
