Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji touched on rumors that he’ll play Silver Surfer in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
When James Gunn shared the first official photo of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast together, some were taken by surprise to see actor Chukwudi Iwuji in the mix. The actor previously worked with James Gunn on the upcoming The Suicide Squad spinoff series Peacemaker, and is currently working with him again in the long-awaited finale to the Guardians trilogy.
Upon confirming his involvement with the film, James Gunn revealed that Chukwudi Iwuji was cast in a role that many actors desperately wanted. Naturally, fans took this as a sign that the role in the film is not only significant to the story, but perhaps to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe. In particular, some have speculated that the role could be none other than the iconic Silver Surfer, who was previously played by Laurence Fishburne in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
In an interview with The Movie Dweeb promoting Peacemaker, Chukwudi Iwuji touched on some of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rumors, including the Silver Surfer role among other potential characters:
“I saw those [rumors] recently, I’ve seen that. I saw Silver Surfer, I saw Nova, I’ve seen [many]. For me to wrap my head around the fact that I am the subject of speculation around the Internet is kind of fun. But I have to stay mum, I can’t tell you. I’d love to”
Either way, the fact that James Gunn cast Chukwudi Iwuji following their experience on Peacemaker together, it bodes well for what kind of dynamic will be on display with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Whether that means he is playing Silver Surfer remains to be seen, but it would certainly be a major win.

Peacemaker was created by James Gunn, who wrote all the episodes and directed five of them. The first season will consist of eight episodes, with Brad Anderson, Jody Hill, and Rosemary Rodriguez also directing episodes. Clint Mansell and Kevin Kiner will compose the score.
Peacemaker stars John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji.
