The return of Vigilante!

Vigilante heads rejoice! James Gunn has confirmed Freddie Stroma will return as Adrian Chase in a DC Universe project before Peacemaker season 2.

Freddie Stroma quickly become a fan-favorite of those who watched Peacemaker due to his role as Adrian Chase, a.k.a. Vigilante. This left those same fans heartbroken to hear season 2 of the show wouldn’t start production until after Superman: Legacy. However, it seems as though Stroma is set to return to the DC Universe sooner than many may think, with James Gunn confirming his return before season 2 of Peacemaker on his Threads accounts.

Fans are already speculating where Freddie Stroma’s Adrian Chase will reappear. Obvious candidates include the Amanda Waller series now in pre-production, which has been confirmed to feature a number of Peacemaker characters. Another option is the upcoming Creature Commandos series, which already features Peacemaker alum Steve Agee as John Economos. However, James Gunn has previously used the Merman emoji heavily associated with Vigilante in relation to Superman: Legacy news, so it could be we’ll be seeing Chase face off against the Man of Steel himself.

Vigilante is a moniker shared by several characters in the DC Comics universe, known for their fierce dedication to justice, often beyond the limits of the law. The original Vigilante, Greg Saunders, was created by Mort Weisinger and Mort Meskin, debuting in Action Comics #42 in November 1941. Among his successors, the most notable is Adrian Chase, introduced in New Teen Titans #23 in 1982 by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
