Pennyworth has added Batman to its title as the series moves to HBO Max for its upcoming third season.
The Alfred Pennyworth origin tale starring Jack Bannon is heading into its third season. At DC FanDome last year, it was confirmed that Pennyworth would be moving to HBO Max after its first two seasons aired on EPIX.
The upcoming season of Pennyworth will feature a five-year time jump, and the synopsis teases the inclusion of superheroes and supervillains. IGN has exclusively released the first trailer for season three, revealing that the series is now titled: Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler. You can watch the season three trailer below.
The Future of DCTV on HBO Max
Pennyworth joins other DC shows debuting exclusively on HBO Max, including Titans, Harley Quinn, Doom Patrol, and Peacemaker. With the recent cancelation of Batgirl, it’s unclear which will survive as DC heads into a new direction under new CEO David Zaslav.
James Gunn recently shared that Peacemaker season two is happening, and reports have suggested that Green Lantern and Matt Reeves’ Penguin series are also safe for now. One series that is no longer happening is Strange Adventures, which was going to explore more obscure DC characters in an anthology format.
Here is the synopsis for Pennyworth season three:
“Season three of the psychological thriller begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains.”
The series stars Jack Bannon, Ben Aldridge, Emma Paetz, Paloma Faith, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater, and Simon Manyonda.
Pennyworth: The Origins of Batman’s Butler will premiere in October 2022 on HBO Max. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest updates on the future of DCTV, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
