Pilou Asbæk is set to make his DC Universe debut in the upcoming film Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. With just a few more weeks to go before the Aquaman sequel arrives in theaters, Asbæk’s DCU role may have been revealed.
Despite being a fairly high-profile actor, with projects like Game of Thrones under his belt, little has been discussed of Pilou Asbæk’s role in the DCU. According to a brand new post on the subreddit r/DCEULeaks, it seems as though Asbæk will be playing the brother of Atlantis’ King Atlan in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.
The post goes on to suggest that the relationship between King Atlan and his brother will mirror that of Orm and Aquaman. Given King Atlan is long dead by the time of the first film, it’s not likely Pilou Asbæk will be coming to blows with Jason Momoa, or really ANY DCU hero. However, he’s certain to make a splash once Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom finally makes its debut.
The Future of The DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
