It seems as though Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom just can’t stop losing. A new survey has the DC Universe sequel losing out to The Marvels as the most anticipated movie this holiday season.
As this year comes to a close, The Marvels and Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom come to blows as the final blockbusters of the year. Despite both films receiving a lot of fanfare, Fandango officially ranks The Marvels as the most anticipated film this holiday season ahead of Aquaman 2. The full rankings can be seen below:

The Marvels also seems poised to beat out Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom when it comes to digital purchases. While both films once again top the charts when it comes to planned purchases, the MCU sequel once more beats out Aquaman 2 as the most anticipated film to purchase digitally:

The most interesting part of all of this is that both The Marvels and Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom have been branded as flops by the internet despite neither film having released. While it’s certain that the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes will hinder both films at the box office, it’s clear both will still make a pretty penny for their studios.
The Talent Behind The Marvels
The Marvels is set to be a groundbreaking film in many ways. Not only does it feature three powerful female superheroes, but it also has a female director, Nia DaCosta, who previously directed the horror flick Candyman. The movie features a cast that includes Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur.
“She has a really calm vibe, too,” Iman Vellani said about DaCosta. “These movies are not easy to make at all. There’s like a million, bajillion little moving pieces. She and [executive producer] Mary [Livanos] did such a great job to keep morale high. Even if there were days where they wanted to rip people’s heads off, they would never show it and never put their stress on anyone else.”
In addition to directing The Marvels, Nia DaCosta also co-wrote the script alongside Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. During an interview, DaCosta described the movie as being “full comic book madness,” teasing what audiences can expect from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
