Production for the third entry in the Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts prequel series may resume in September.
The Harry Potter franchise has been in the spotlight lately for all the wrong reasons. Between star Johnny Depp’s ongoing legal battles with former wife Amber Heard and writer J.K. Rowling’s transphobic views, the franchise itself has, unfortunately, become inseparable from these events. But there is still a third Fantastic Beasts film in the works and it could resume filming very soon.
The last entry in the franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald sadly did not perform as well as everyone had hoped. The film currently only has a 37% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and while it earned well over $650M worldwide, it did not perform as well as anyone Warner Bros had expected. The Harry Potter franchise has since been moved to Universal which is still planning on releasing the third installment in the Fantastic Beasts series.
While nothing has been confirmed by the studios, reports from Variety indicate that certain projects in the United Kingdom, including that of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, are set to resume production in September. If this true, this will likely include the upcoming Fantastic Beasts film. The exact date as to when this will happen, however, has not been confirmed.
What do you all make of this? Would you like the third Fantastic Beasts film to resume production sooner rather than later? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Here is the official synopsis for the most recent entry in the film franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald:
At the end of the first film, the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise wizards and witches up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Directed by David Yates from a script written by J. K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
